Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?
Hi, this is John Beckett. I come across a question from time to time that is so perplexing, and it's the question that may have been on your mind, and that is, "Why do bad things seem to happen to good people?" Well, there have probably been books written on this subject, it's that complicated. There is an explanation, though, for what goes on when we see this happen. And it is that we are in a world that is at war. There is a war between good and evil. There is a war between righteousness and unrighteousness. There is a battle that we get caught up in, and sometimes with no reason, no fault of our own, we end up with really unfortunate things happening to us. That's happened to me, and if it hasn't, it will happen to you. But there's a way to think about this that helps us. And that is to know that God is for us. Even in the challenging times, He will bring life and peace and security to us, in spite of the challenges. You know, people have been imprisoned, people have suffered great hardship, and yet God has carried them through. There's a passage in scripture that says, "Rain falls on both the just and the unjust." Sometimes it happens, it's part of life. But do know that God is there to carry us through and ultimately to carry us into His eternal Kingdom. He loves us, He cares for us, and He'll be with us in good times and bad.
