What proof do we have for the resurrection?
A critical question in understanding the message of the gospel is Jesus' resurrection. What proof do we have that he actually was resurrected? Some would say that he wasn't. The reality is that changes everything. If Jesus did not rise from the grave, we have no foundation for the core of our Christian faith. but He did! How do we know? Well, he was very intentional. I mean, he could have just said, "poof, we're out of here, I've done my job," but he didn't do that. He actually mingled with folks for, close to six whole weeks, 40 days. And, we know that in the book of Acts, it's very specific. It says "After His suffering, He showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a period of 40 days, and He spoke about the kingdom of God." So, this was an amazing period where people were filled with doubt and fear and questions. Even with Thomas, one of his disciples, he held up his hand and He said, "see the nail prints. This is real, this is not fiction." He had meals with them. He walked along dusty roads with them. He interacted with them. And so we can be absolutely confident that the resurrection is as central to the gospel story as the crucifixion itself. They go together. He died, but then He rose again from that terrible grave and he lives forevermore. So be confident. The resurrection is real.
